• Price: Scotts Valley Campers Save $25 Per Week
Athena Camps was founded in 2011 and has operated for over 14 years as an all-girls, mentorship-driven camp. The program offers age-appropriate options for Mini, Junior, and Middle School participants, along with a Coach In Training program for grades 9–12. Since its founding, Athena Camps reports having empowered over 12,000 girls and is described as “All-Girls. All-Day. All-Empowerment.”
The all-female coaching staff is background-checked and extensively trained in youth development, with a stated 1:6 ratio for the youngest campers. Program materials state that sports build physical confidence, art fosters self-expression, and daily sharing circles develop voice, supported by strong female role models, background-checked staff, comprehensive staff training, and safe, supportive guidance. Athena Camps is an American Camp Association (ACA) accredited program. The organization’s vision is “to build communities of girls and women who nurture and uplift each other in order to have a positive lasting impact on our world.” The leadership team is led by Aby Ryan, Founder & CEO of Athena Camps.
Parent feedback includes comments that campers “had an amazing time and came home with stories and shared what she learned all week long” (Neal M.). Another parent shared that a younger child who was hesitant to join new groups “was so excited to return every single day” and that both children “grew in their confidence, friendliness, and their athletic ability,” and that the posters and quotes “really stuck with her” (Sonali). One parent reported that their daughter “liked the messages on friendship so much she wanted to come back every year until she’s old enough to be a coach” (Sofia C.). Another noted that “The Coach in Training program really resonated with my daughter and I could tell that she gained confidence in herself from the experience” (Kimberley W.). A parent described a child who initially did not want to attend but then “had so much fun she attended each day with enthusiasm and has asked to do multiple weeks of Athena Camp next Summer” (Chris O.). Another parent stated, “We love Camp Athena, my daughter has been attending since kindergarten and looks forward to it every summer. I love that she gets to try out a variety of physical activities in a supportive environment that is fun and inclusive” (Elizabeth R.).
