Youth Programs includes activities such as scavenger hunts, art projects, garden projects, pizza cook-offs, and work on the farm. Participants harvest food, cook and eat what they grow, and can earn EARTH HERO badges for learning skills such as growing trees, harvesting veggies, keeping bees, and making compost. Children learn about native plants and animals through play, stories, songs, cooking, art, science, and gardening.
• Ages: 3–12 years old
• Schedule: Nature camp typically runs from late June through early August, Monday–Friday from 9 am to 3 pm, with optional early drop-off at 8:30 am and extended care until 5 pm.
Youth Programs offer a Pre-K Playgroup for ages 3–5, a Homeschool Group for ages 5–11, and a Summer Nature Camp for ages 5–12. PASCA teaches youth 0 to 99 how to care for wild nature and farms where they live. ELSEE has an educational garden and living laboratory and a set of curriculum to reconnect youth with nature. Hester is an Experimental Regenerative Organic Agriculture farm that is run by community volunteers, college interns, and high school students, and Hester Farm is used for teaching, training, and research. The purpose of Plant & Soul California (PASCA) is to collaborate with stakeholders to build a network of carbon-neutral urban land use models that will demonstrate to others that local solutions can solve the Global Climate Emergency, the Ecological Crisis, the Soil Crisis, and Nature Deficit Disorder among youth.
