Neighborhood Christian Preschool is a faith-based Christian preschool and childcare program that follows a play-based learning philosophy described as “Play is the best way to learn” and uses a holistic approach to early learning. Programs are offered for infants, toddlers, preschool, and transitional kindergarten, including Infant 1 (newborn–walking), Infant 2 (walking–18 months), Infant 3 (18–24 months), Preschool 1 and 2 (2–3 years), and Transitional Kindergarten (4–5 years), with enrollment available for children ages six weeks to five years or about to enter first grade. The environment is described as supporting the whole child—mind, body, and spirit—with worship, prayer, and loving guidance woven into daily life and weekly Chapel times with age-appropriate Bible stories.

Neighborhood Christian Schools is a religious corporation operating under a religious mission. Its philosophy states that each student is viewed as unique and gifted by God for a special purpose, and its mission is described as helping children know and understand the love of Jesus Christ. NCS does not require parents to subscribe to any statement of faith or make a profession of faith, but does require parents to cooperate with and respect NCS’s religious mission, values, religious education, and philosophy.

Neighborhood Christian Preschool/Agape Schools admits students of any age, race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school, and NCP does not discriminate with regard to enrollment or participation in programs or activities on the basis of race, color, sex, or national ethnic origin. NCP has developed a partnership with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). NCP has partnered with San Jose City College for accreditation of programs, teaching, and training of staff at the highest national level, and NCP was one of the first preschools to be recognized as an Exemplary Partner with Valley Christian Schools. Agape Schools are founding members of the Ekklesia in Education.

Clifford E. Daugherty founded Agape Schools Inc. in 1981, and a decade later he and his wife, Kris Daugherty, opened the doors of Neighborhood Christian Preschool. Clifford E. Daugherty, Ed.D., is listed as President. NCP has partnered with San Jose City College for accreditation of programs, teaching, and training of staff at the highest national level.

The program hosts a Moms and Muffins event where every mom is greeted with a fresh muffin and a flower, and older children work on special classroom projects to honor moms. One parent testimonial from Jenifer Wana, author of “How to Choose the Best Preschool for Your Child,” states that even though it seems like the children are just playing, they are learning valuable skills, including important social skills and cooperation with others, learning about signs because most items are labeled, and early math.
