Plaza Summer Camp is a free, full-day childcare and arts program for youth in the Mayfair and East San José community and serves grades 1–8, with plans to expand to grades 1–12. The program offers culturally rooted programming and has more than doubled in size since 2021. Referrals from ¡Sí Se Puede! Collective partners prioritize low-income households, with a focus on reducing summer learning loss and supporting working parents. The camp operates under the mission of the Mexican Heritage Plaza to champion community heritage, strength, and resiliency through the activation of arts and culture as a pathway for community preservation and celebration. A local parent shared, “Plaza Camp is more than just childcare—it’s where our kids find their voices, build confidence, and stay connected to our culture all summer long.”
The broader leadership team connected to the program includes roles such as Chief Executive Officer Jessica Paz-Cedillos, Deputy Director of Programs Melissa Canela, Arts Education Program Manager Rojana Ibarra, Director of Community Engagement Edgar Ochoa, and Director of Finance Jay Huang, along with staff in operations, facilities, development, production, communications, marketing, human resources, community engagement, and video management.
