Aim High Summer is committed to a multi-summer learning experience for students beginning in 5th grade through 8th grade, and students are expected to attend consecutive summers throughout middle school. The program’s mission states that it ignites a love of learning and prepares students for success in middle school, high school, and beyond, and it is guided by CORE values of Community, Opportunity, Respect, and High Expectations. The program has implemented restorative practices to prevent as well as respond to conflict, harm, and wrongdoing, and behavior expectations and interventions are rooted in these practices. The Issues & Choices class provides age-appropriate lessons and activities to explore identity, develop social emotional skills, and create plans for the future. The STEM class encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity through designing and building projects that solve real-world problems, and the Humanities class encourages students to read, write, think about, and discuss contemporary issues to further develop communication and literacy skills. One parent described Aim High as a lifeline as a working parent, noting that communication has been easy, program offerings have been great, the child enjoys instructors, and the child experienced middle school-style transitions between classes, different enrichment options, new sports, and mentorship.
