San Jose Youth Symphony Summer Camps
Santa Clara University, 500 El Camino Real, Suite 210, San Jose, CA 95192
About
San Jose Youth Symphony Summer Camps include rehearsals, sectionals, sectional coaching, and masterclass performance opportunities. Campers attend masterclasses offered in winds and strings, take part in fun activities, and finish the week with a concert where they perform the music they worked on. Members of the SJYS Orchestras and Ensembles attend different weeklong summer camps prior to the start of the season to work in-depth on the music they will be rehearsing and performing in concerts throughout the season.
• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Weeklong day and overnight summer camps, including a day camp running Monday–Friday, 9 am–4 pm
These camps are described as providing critical, intensive training for SJYS members to prepare for the upcoming season. The camps also allow members to bond and form friendships with each other and with their conductor. All of the camps end the week with a concert where the campers perform the music they worked on during the week. All campers attend the masterclasses offered in winds and strings. The San Jose Youth Symphony states as its mission: “We give young people a foundation for life through orchestral music.” The name “San Jose Symphony” is a registered trademark of the San Jose Symphony Foundation and its use in all its variations is by license. The leadership team listed for the program includes Yair Samet, Kris Palmer, Charles Ancheta, Ricky Martinez, Randy Cono, Shota Otaguro, Heidi Modr, Scott Homer, and Daniel Wood. There is a video specifically about the Overnight Camps referenced as “See Our Video About the Overnight Camps!”
