Wushu Central’s Kung Fu Kids was founded more than 20 years ago by Sifu (Master) David Chang and Elizabeth (Liz) Chang. In 2002, David Chang began with 20 students in his parents’ garage, and by 2003 Wushu Central had moved into its first official location in Santa Clara. A studio opened in San Jose in 2008, followed by locations in Palo Alto in 2021 and Pleasanton in 2023. The program operates as a community-centered franchise business model and a values-driven martial arts academy serving families across California.

David Chang is a national Wushu champion and trained with the Beijing Wushu Team, and Liz Chang has a background in restaurant management. The program’s mission statement says that Wushu Central’s Kung Fu Kids began with a vision to help children grow into confident, disciplined, and resilient individuals. Wushu Central’s Kung Fu Kids has been featured on NBC News, Discovery Channel, and Black Belt Magazine.

The franchise model includes age-specific programs tailored to different developmental stages and abilities, as well as specialized programs like Spectrum Stars for children on the autism spectrum and a unique curriculum for children with special needs. The business offers multiple revenue streams through classes, birthday parties, special events, and uniform and equipment sales, and provides exclusive territories, structured curriculum, comprehensive training, and ongoing support for franchise owners within a supportive franchise network centered on growth and development.

Parent testimonials describe instructors as kind, patient, and effective at keeping kids engaged and excited to learn, and report that children show increased focus, confidence, strength, discipline, and physical coordination. One parent notes that a 5-year-old is learning basic coordination and listening skills while a 12-year-old is developing self-discipline and more advanced techniques, and another highlights teachers’ ability to combine rigor and discipline with kindness and care, mentioning Coach Mayu as a particularly strong and flexible teacher.
