Musical Mentors is a non-profit charity focused on providing free, quality musical activities for children regardless of their socio-economic status. It uses a learn-to-earn approach to mentorship and life-skill training through music education, where students earn points toward owning their first ukulele or guitar, free of charge. During the course of their studies, students borrow instruments such as guitar and ukulele, and at the conclusion of the Awards Recital, Musical Mentors transfers ownership of these instruments to students who have completed all required lessons. Students who graduate the program have the opportunity and are encouraged to become mentors for emerging classes, and the curriculum is flexible and designed with ages 9–14 in mind while remaining open to all. Musical Mentors offers multiple chapters where children learn from music educators and mentors in their community, and the program is designed to be replicable in any community around the world.

All volunteers are hand-selected for their ability to connect with students in a positive and age-appropriate way and receive ample training to make sure they are proficient. Instrument donations are acceptable from anyone, provided those instruments meet the required criteria, and donations go directly to either purchase instruments for students or to pay for classroom time.

Musical Mentors started out in 2007 and has been a 501c3 non-profit charity since 2007. Since beginning in 2007, it has served communities in Southern California including San Juan Capistrano, Santa Ana, San Clemente, and Garden Grove, as well as chapters in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and now Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls, Idaho. In 2009, NAMM recognized Musical Mentors as a group of “Musical Heroes” to watch in their campaign to increase musical education and participation worldwide. Musical Mentors was also selected by Peet's Coffee at Ocean Ranch in Dana Point two years in a row to be their charity of choice for the holiday season.
