About

Central Coast Friday Night Lights Flag Football offers youth flag football that includes league games, playoffs, and a championship. The program also includes football training, with teams playing 6 v 6 and using skill positions such as quarterback, wide receiver, running back, and defensive back. Each team has a maximum of 9 players, and everyone plays in 3 out of 4 quarters.

• Ages: 5–13 years old
• Schedule: Season runs from late August through December, with practices starting in August, opening night in mid to late August, and playoffs and a championship Friday in late November or early December; games are on Fridays with possible midweek games if necessary; there is also a 4-week Tuesday/Thursday session from 6/16–7/9
• Price: $305/PLAYER (INCLUDES JERSEY & SHORTS)

The program uses professional, paid game officials, has 7–8 games plus playoffs weather permitting, and holds only one practice per week, leaving weekends free. Families can form their own team or have the league form one for them, and there are no team sponsor fees. Each player receives a jersey and shorts as part of the player fee, and teams receive trophies and a special uniform patch. The league has separate boys and girls divisions at all levels except Kinder, with boys and girls participating from grades K–8th in five divisions based on grade, and it is a no-contact format with fewer injuries.

Central Coast Friday Night Lights Flag Football lists Mark Broersma as Commissioner and Joe Protheroe, the all-time leading Cal Poly running back, as part of its leadership. The program states that it is the “#1 YOUTH FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE IN CALIFORNIA!”, the “FASTEST GROWING YOUTH SPORTS LEAGUE ON THE CENTRAL COAST,” and “BEST YOUTH SPORTS EXPERIENCE YOU WILL EVER HAVE,” and notes that 40,000–50,000 kids play FNL Football each year. It is part of a broader FNL network that includes 22 FNL Football leagues in various locations such as Los Alamitos/Seal Beach/Long Beach, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Murrieta, Temecula, Newport Beach/Costa Mesa, North County Coast (Carlsbad/Oceanside), Desert Sands (Palm Desert/La Quinta/Indio), Irvine/Tustin, South Orange County (Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Hills), Corona (Norco, Eastvale, Jurupa Valley), North San Diego (Rancho Bernardo, Poway), Carmel Valley (Solana Beach, Del Mar, La Jolla, Penesquitos), Santa Barbara, Edmond/Oklahoma City, Choctaw (OK), Lake Forest, Cypress, Glendale, Antelope Valley, and Long Beach. The program notes that CIF has approved girls flag football as an official CIF high school sport for the fall season.

The refund policy states that all refund requests must be received in writing by October 15th for the Spring Season and June 15th for the Fall Season; after these dates, refunds will not be issued as the league will start to incur many expenses in preparation for the upcoming season. The rain policy states that the City of San Luis Obispo will make all final decisions on whether or not games can be played, schedule changes are posted by 2pm on game day, and families are told to always assume games will be played. A parking alert notes that there is no parking in the SESLOC lot until after 6pm for both the south and north lot, and that parking attendants will be there to assist.
