Dairy Creek Junior Golf Lessons & First Tee Programs is part of a facility that includes the Tom Lehman Learning Center, which is used by the Cal Poly Golf Teams and is open to the public. Dairy Creek is a host site for The First Tee Central Coast on Friday afternoons, and multiple instructors are Certified First Tee Coaches. The course is described as the Central Coast’s premier nine-hole, par 36 golf experience and is a links-style golf course that works in harmony with nature, with chance encounters with wildlife on the course. Dairy Creek is one of SLO County Park's trio of golf courses. The Opening Day tournament in 1997 benefitted high school golf in San Luis Obispo County. The leadership team includes Josh Heptig as Golf Superintendent and Joe Oles as Pro Shop Manager. The program’s stated mission is to grow the game of golf by providing fun, affordable learning opportunities to players with various levels of ability, and it states that it believes golf to be a truly enjoyable recreational activity and aims to share its passion for the game in hopes that it will light a flame inside of the player. One instructor, Mike Brabenec, sends each student an email summary, pictures, and video after every golf lesson highlighting critical points, and Coach McKee uses video and TopTracer to teach physical fundamentals and mental skills. Construction of the course began in 1994, and its Opening Day tournament was held March 22, 1997, on land that was deeded to the County of San Luis Obispo in 1972 during President Nixon’s Legacy of Parks program, after Guiseppe Gilardi and Charles Walter purchased the land of Dairy Creek in 1904.
