The Groove Academy is led by Casey and Nguyen, who have spent six years as the head coaches of the national award winning Mission Hills dance team and have also been the head coaches for the Cal State San Marcos dance team. Casey is a born and raised San Marcos native who attended Knob Hill, Woodland Park, and Mission Hills, and Nguyen was born and raised in San Diego and attended San Diego State University. The program states that it cultivates a community where dance families are welcomed to be engaged, committed, and involved in studio culture, and that it fosters an environment where dancers can excel at their craft while still pursuing other extracurricular passions. It also describes itself as offering a nurturing, uplifting, and fun dance space, with opportunities for both recreational participation and a competitive track.
