About
Murphy Music Camps offers activities that include Voicebox Choir, Digital Music Video Camp, Digital Production Camp, Band, Orchestra, and Choir Camp. Students take part in events such as a Winter Concert, a Spring Concert/Showcase, a Concert in the Park in San Carlos, and a music festival in the Spring. Activities also include student music video production, direction and editing, including a music video produced, directed and edited by a camper named Zoey.
• Schedule: Voicebox Choir rehearses every Wednesday from 5:00pm–6:30pm in 90-minute sessions, with a mandatory student meeting on Wednesday Sept. 10 from 5:00–6:00pm and the Spring 2026 semester beginning Jan. 14th.
• Price: Tuition is $700 plus a $25 materials/t-shirt fee for the entire school year or $400 plus a $25 materials/t-shirt fee for the 2026 Spring Semester.
Murphy Music Camps states that on the last day of every week, all classes perform a free concert or screening for family and friends. The program offers discounts for early bird signups, siblings, and multiple sessions. It has adopted a “No Child Turned Away” and “no child left behind” scholarship policy and states that it will not turn away any applicants due to financial hardship. The program notes that tuition amounts to less than $20 for a 90-minute session.
The leadership team includes co-founder and award-winning choral director Sara Rangel-Murphy, a co-founder who is an award-winning music director at Serra High School, a co-founder who is an award-winning choir/vocal director at St. Charles School/Parish, and instructor Joe Murphy. Sara earned her Masters in Opera Performance from California State University, Northridge, began her career as an opera singer in the greater Los Angeles area, and has been teaching in the San Carlos area since 2008. She was the music director at St. Charles Parish, in charge of music for all masses including holy days, weddings, and funerals, and is currently the K–6 music director at St. Charles School. She runs a private voice studio where she helps students prepare for upcoming auditions and is the director of the musical and the 8th grade play at St. Charles.
The Voicebox Choir was founded in 2007 and has grown from 17 students at its start to over 70 at its strongest. Murphy Music Camps describes its staff as award-winning professional musical staff and describes Voicebox Choir as long-standing and award-winning. The Voicebox Choir takes in kids from all over the peninsula and thanks its host, St. Charles. Murphy Music Camps states that its mission is to provide a stimulating environment for learning and expressing music, with quality instruction from its award-winning professional musical staff in a fun, dynamic and creative environment.
