About
SummerCrest offers challenging summer classes along with non-academic activity programs for able students. The program combines academic classes with enrichment and outdoor activity programs. Staff members foster student curiosity in learning, actively involve students in activities, encourage laughter and cooperation, and inspire joy and fun in learning in a relaxing, fun camp setting.
SummerCrest was established for the purpose of providing able students with both challenging summer classes and broadening non-academic activity programs. Its vision is to combine the academic with the fun, to foster student excitement and wonder in learning, and to bring out these same feelings in enrichment and outdoor activity programs. At SummerCrest each student is described as a valued member of the camp community, and teamwork, leadership skills, student confidence, mutual respect, and a feeling of community are all stated components of the camp. The program states that summer is a long period of time to shut out academic skills and stimulation, and the staff seeks to do its part to prevent summer learning loss.
All staff members are professional educators. The leadership is headed by Director Bonnie Casassa, who holds a B.A. from UC Berkeley and an M.A. from San Francisco State University and is retired from the San Francisco School District. Families are invited to meet the experienced and credentialed teachers for SummerCrest 2023, and all teachers have been vaccinated. The program describes its staff as lively and fun and notes that they look forward to getting acquainted with each child.
Marin Educational Adventures is the non-profit parent organization of SummerCrest camp. This organization provides a limited number of need-based scholarships in consultation with elementary school principals, and scholarships are awarded without regard to a student’s race, creed, or national origin.
