About

Marin Girls Chorus offers singing, dancing, musical theater, choral work, and performance skills that include vocal technique, vocal warm-ups, and choreography. Participants take part in arts and crafts, art projects, active music games, and creative exploration while playing and exploring musical instruments and learning music concepts of notation, rhythm, and movement. The program also includes retreats, master clinics, outreach concerts, and community activities.

• Schedule: SummerSings Camp sessions are one week long, with two weekly sessions offered July 13–17 and July 20–24, 2026, running Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm and ending with a Friday Showcase Performance at 2 pm.

Marin Girls Chorus offers choral programs for girls in grades K–12, including Young Singers (grades K–2), Training Division (grades 2–6), Concert Division (grades 6–12), Pop Chorus, Summer Offerings, and an Online Academy. SummerSings Camp is for girls entering grades K–4, and Singer’s Workshop is for girls in 5th grade and up. Any girl who can carry a tune, match pitch, and has a clear, undamaged voice in grades K–12 may join, and anyone who identifies as a girl can join. New students interested in the Concert Division register for a vocal placement. Marin Girls Chorus includes music from a wide variety of sources and traditions, and many songs are liturgical in nature; some groups rehearse in a church and performances are sometimes in churches. A chorus-provided gender-neutral shirt and pants combination is permissible for all students in lieu of concert dress when arranged in advance with the Business Director or the student’s instructor.

All students’ informal uniform consists of a purple shirt provided by Marin Girls Chorus worn over jeans, pants, or a dark skirt, with hair pulled away from the face; Concert Division informal uniform also includes a dark gray MGC-branded hoodie. Entrada formal dress consists of the singer’s own dress with black shoes, with hair away from the face. Gaudiosa formal dress is a knee-length navy blue chorus-provided dress with black tights and black shoes, with hair pulled back from the face. Brava formal dress is a black knee-length chorus-provided dress with black tights and black flats, with hair pulled back from the face. Pop Chorus formal dress is a chorus-provided black tunic and pants with black shoes, with hair pulled back from the face. Davanti formal dress is a chorus-provided black dress hemmed one inch above the ground with black flats, with hair pulled back from the face. Fortissima formal dress uses the same black dress hemmed one inch above the ground with black flats, with hair pulled back from the face.

Marin Girls Chorus is a nonprofit youth chorus that provides high quality musical education and experiences for girls of Marin County and offers retreats, master clinics, outreach concerts, and community activities. Boys who are interested in choral training are invited to join the San Francisco Boys Chorus, which has a weekly rehearsal site in San Rafael. The mission of Marin Girls Chorus is to empower girls through exceptional music education and the joy of collaborative singing by creating an inclusive environment and providing a stage for singers to build confidence, community, and a strong sense of self.

Marin Girls Chorus is led by President and Artistic Director Cole Thomason-Redus, Chairman/Secretary Eric Silverman, Treasurer Sally Aaron, Board member Carri Abrahms, Advisory Board member Laurel Roberts-Meese, and Advisory Board member and Founder Martha Wall. Denise Wharmby is the Training Division Director, and Scott Fulton is the Business Director. Marin Girls Chorus is a nonprofit youth chorus, and Artistic Director Cole Thomason-Redus is a two-time GRAMMY Award-winning choral artist.

Cole Thomason-Redus has twenty-four years of experience teaching music to young minds and began singing at age seven in the San Francisco Boys Chorus, later serving as their Assistant Conductor and holding positions with Chanticleer, Ragazzi Boys Chorus, San Francisco Arts Education Project, and Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts. His choral compositions have been performed internationally, including by Cantus and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus. He previously served seven years as Curator of Classical Music at iTunes and Apple Music and worked as one of five classical musicologists at Pandora Media Inc. for the Music Genome Project. He is also on staff at the National Children’s Chorus and develops educational content and programming for the Department of Diversity, Equity and Community at San Francisco Opera.

Training Division Director Denise Wharmby was a consultant and songwriter for “Music Makers,” a BBC television program for schools in the UK. She has taught grades K–12 in Marin schools and served as music director of high school musicals at San Domenico for twelve consecutive years. She has written words and music for a growing collection of original songs for children.

Business Director Scott Fulton is an arts administrator, music producer, and live sound engineer with more than twenty years of experience in live music production and nonprofit arts operations. Over the past decade, he served as Operations Director for San Jose Jazz, helping lead performances, festivals, education initiatives, and community programs. He studied Music Industry Studies at California State University, Northridge.

Founder and Advisory Board member Martha Wall has taught and directed music in Marin County since 1980. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of California, Berkeley, where she studied conducting with Michael Senturia, and a Master’s in Music Education from Holy Names College in Oakland with an emphasis on the Kodály approach to children’s music education. For over fifteen years she was Associate Director for Consort Chorale, a Marin County adult choral ensemble in which she also sings, and she served as Director of Music for First Presbyterian Church, San Anselmo for seven years. She currently sings with the Marin Symphony Chorus and retired as Marin Girls Chorus’s Artistic Director in 2013.
