About

Santa Barbara Vipers is a youth basketball program. Participants play and train in basketball under the direction of experienced coaches.

• Ages: 8–18 years old

The Santa Barbara Vipers have been producing college-level athletes and young men and women of substance since 1998. The program is led by Coach David (Dave) Palmer, who has over two decades of coaching experience, including leading the Santa Barbara Dons to their first CIF championship in 40 years and helping bring Ventura College to a state championship. He has also played semi-pro basketball and has been coaching for 21 years.

The stated mission is to provide a foundation that will set a child up for life, with a focus on fundamentals in academics, basketball, and life skills. Coach Palmer serves the community by giving young men and women an outlet for anything they may be dealing with in their personal lives and believes that a strong foundation is key to helping kids succeed in all realms of life. The Santa Barbara Vipers are described as Santa Barbara's #1 youth basketball club and as a not-for-profit organization that proudly provides scholarships to children whose families are low to moderate income.

Testimonials about Coach Palmer and the program include: “Dave has taught me so much on and off the court and is one of the reasons I am where I am today” from Alvoid “AV” Bennet, described as a UCLA football star, and “Dave helped change my perspective on the game.” Coach Palmer has said, “Coaching, you really don’t do it for the money, you do it for the love, or for the community, for the kids, and that’s what I’ve been doing for 15 years.”
