Sessions also include self myofascial release, agility work, dynamic stretching, arm care with shoulder tubes and bands, small medicine ball throws, stretch band movements for small muscle, tendon, and ligament strengthening and movement, deceleration throws, pronation throws, and post arm care protocols including weighted implement reverse throwing methods, internal shoulder stretching routines, band work, and the use of mobility wrap and Marc Pro post arm recovery devices.
• Schedule: 80 minute group class structure; 4–8 week summer training; 2–3 week winter training
ThrowZone Academy operates as a full time indoor pitching academy and has functioned as a full time facility since 2000. Jim Wagner is the owner of ThrowZone Academy, a former collegiate pitcher at the University of Arizona and coach, and a college athlete consultant for College Help Squad. The leadership team includes Jim Wagner and Cynthia Wagner, who is the host of the College Help Squad Podcast. Coach Wagner began a very small pitching business in 2000 and has worked with over 20,000 players in his 25 years of coaching. The program’s stated mission is that ThrowZone provides baseball throwing development with an emphasis on pitching velocity and control while maintaining unprecedented arm health, guaranteed.
ThrowZone Academy uses physical therapy-type protocols and equipment to help restore the student’s body and uses mobility wrap and Marc Pro devices to promote blood flow to areas of need of the throwing arm. The program tracks objective measurements for gains in core strength, arm velocity, and weighted ball protocols through note taking in facility notebooks and contest-driven activities. Over 210 players from ThrowZone Academy have moved into both professional and collegiate baseball, and currently 163 of Jim Wagner's clients have thrown over 90 miles per hour, 62 have thrown 94 mph, and 15 have thrown 100 mph or higher. Summer and winter training camps bring high school and college students from all over the country.
ThrowZone Academy maintains a consistent network of communication with travel ball programs, the showcase circuit, college coaches, and professional scouts, who are utilized to place students in appropriate settings. A testimonial from What Pitchers & Parents Say About ThrowZone Academy states, “Let me just say, for any of you who love baseball, and want to become great pitchers and are in it to win it, or just throw the ball with great velocity and control, then I highly recommend TZAcademy.”
