About
TYM Camp includes camping, surfing, games, sharing meals, laughter, and learning about Biblical characters and modern people who demonstrate what it looks like to be heroes of faith in Jesus. Campers take part in activities such as Beach Day & Surfing, riding the waves on a boogie board, and surfing with a MeWater instructor. The program also offers special outings like a Giants Game and a trip to the Exploratorium in San Francisco with a ferry ride from Port Richmond.

TYM Camp places campers in cabin teams of six children matched with two adult leaders, with each cabin gender specific and grouped by similar age or grade. The Emerging Leaders Academy (ELA) is for youth ages 13–16 and includes camping for two nights on Mt. Tamalpais, surfing at Stinson Beach on the Pacific Ocean, and getting fitted with wetsuits for the surfing day. The ELA group is an intimate crew of about 16–19 youth and 6 adult coaches. TYM Camp partners with Redwood Camp, and the Emerging Leaders Academy Camping & Surfing Summer Trip is in partnership with the MeWater Foundation. TYM fundraises over $100,000 each year to help pay for camp fees, transportation, supplies, and staffing, and the camp theme in July 2024 was “Be Heroic.” For over 30 years, TYM has been committed to making sure that every child will have the opportunity to have a high-quality summer camp experience, with programs that focus on Bay Area urban youth and reference challenges in the Bay Area’s lower-income communities. The mission of TYM is transforming the lives of urban youth by changing the life trajectory of urban youth through year-round programming and mentoring relationships, guiding students through a Transformational Journey to instill resilience and fulfill their God given potential, aiming to alter the life path of these children and impact them and their families, focusing on empowerment and becoming part of the solution, and offering a Transformational Journey for students from elementary through high school. The leadership team includes Moises Ramirez (Area Director), Barry Tonge (Director of Programs & Operations), Passionai Johnson (Program Coordinator), and Vanessa Calloway (Program Manager), along with board members Bob Rodde (Board Chairman), Pat Stordahl, Mark Corti, Sandy Soule, Margena Wade-Green, Donnell Jones, and Jeff Lessman.
