• Ages: 5–18 years old
Inclusion is at the heart of everything Beyond Karate does, with a focus on making sure every student, regardless of abilities, feels welcomed and supported. The program emphasizes community among students, families, and instructors, and uses consistent practice and supportive instruction to empower students on and off the mat. Programs are inclusive and aimed at kids with special needs, and they also promote understanding and acceptance among neurotypical peers. Beyond Karate is committed to empowering women through self-defense programs. The program was founded by Mallica Cooper, a Sensei who established karate and camp programs tailored for kids with special needs in 2009 and is dedicated to empowering personal, physical, and emotional growth in individuals of all ages. Vassie Naidoo Hanshi, an 8th Degree Black Belt, is also recognized in the program’s credentials. The program notes that it is a proud partner with other organizations, though specific partners are not listed.
