Coerver Coaching was founded in 1984 by Alf Galustian and former Chelsea player Charlie Cooke, and Jimmy Galustian, Emily Galustian, and Chas Cooke represent the next chapter of Coerver Coaching. Coerver programs are delivered by certified Coerver coaches. Coerver Coaching is described as the leading brand name in independent football education globally and has been an Adidas partner for 20 years. It delivers skill-based football coaching in 47 countries and operates in 37+ locations across the United States, as well as programs in Canada and Central America.
The program is described as the World's #1 Youth Soccer Skills Method and is built on the Coerver method trusted by over 1 million players and parents in 47 countries since 1984. It is a comprehensive coaching program for young players teaching both individual skills and team play to both boys and girls with programs for players of all ages and abilities. Programs are structured by age group and skill level, with a player pathway that includes Phase One (4–6 years) Developing First Skills: Learning through Fun; Phase Two (7–11) Developing Core Skills: Improving the Individual; and Phase Three (12–16) Developing Team: Developing an effective team player. Programs begin at age 4 and continue through age 16, with sessions tailored to each developmental stage, and are designed for all ability levels, from complete beginners to competitive club players.
The curriculum is based on the Pyramid of Player Development, including Ball Mastery, Receiving & Passing, 1v1 Moves, Speed, Finishing, and Group Play, with a belief that ball mastery is the foundation of the curriculum. Every session has a clear developmental objective and measurable outcomes for each player. The First Skills Program is a fun, foundational introduction to soccer for young players focusing on ball mastery, movement, and confidence-building through guided play. The Performance Academy provides weekly soccer skills training sessions where players systematically improve dribbling, passing, shooting, and 1v1 ability. Summer Soccer Camps include structured skills training, fun drills, and small-sided games. Goalkeeper Training is specialist coaching covering positioning, handling, footwork, and decision-making, and Coerver Futsal uses fast-paced, small-sided sessions that sharpen touch, creativity, and decision-making under pressure. Team Training offers custom training blocks for youth teams at grassroots, recreational, and competitive levels.
Coerver offers accredited coaching courses and team partnership programs. The Intro to Coerver Coaching course is a one-day foundational course covering the Coerver methodology and ball mastery pyramid. Youth Diploma Level 1 covers age-appropriate session design, player development principles, and hands-on coaching practice, while Youth Diploma Level 2 covers team patterns, 1v1 development, and coaching leadership. The Partner Club Program brings a Coerver coach to clubs on a weekly or monthly basis to train players and upskill coaching staff. Coerver states that coaches should try to develop the person as well as the player and encourages an attacking mind-set where hard work and commitment to the team is the priority.
Parent and coach feedback includes comments such as a 9-year-old showing improvement in ball control and confidence on the pitch over two seasons, with coaches described as organized, encouraging, and skilled at working with kids. A coach reported that bringing Coerver in for team training led to players being more technical and more creative, and that coaches learned as much as the kids. Another parent described the summer soccer camp as the highlight of their daughter's summer and noted that she came home every day excited about what she had learned and was already signed up for the fall Performance Academy.
