Santa Monica Tennis offers private and group tennis instruction for children, as well as kids tennis classes and junior tennis academy classes. The program also runs tennis camps and mini-camps during Winter, Spring, and Summer vacation breaks, and organizes junior tennis teams at the Novice, Satellite, and Open levels. In addition, Santa Monica Tennis offers adult group tennis classes, adult players’ clinics focusing on doubles strategy, and tennis classes at Santa Monica College.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Private instruction is offered Monday through Saturday; kids classes and adult clinics generally meet once a week in 8-week sessions; junior team matches are scheduled every other Sunday afternoon with up to 2-hour matches
• Price: Private lesson instruction is $120 per hour or $60 per half-hour; 10-lesson packages cost $1100 and 5-lesson packages cost $550, with an $8 fee for each additional student in groups larger than two
Junior team players have five scheduled matches every other Sunday afternoon, with a sixth match if a team makes the playoffs, and matches take place at country clubs and tennis facilities primarily on the Westside. Mini-camps during Summer, Winter, and Spring Break are offered for youth tennis players of all levels ages 6–17. Campers are expected to bring a racket, a new can of balls, a snack, and water, and must wear non-marking, rubber-soled shoes. The program has a rainout policy stating that all rainouts for tennis classes will be rescheduled to a later date, and there are no makeups for classes missed by students for any reason. The year-round scheduling of after school programs, camps, and team competition reflects the program’s stated philosophy that a tennis player develops skills with consistent learning and practice over a consistent period of time.
