About

Santa Monica Tennis offers private instruction, group instruction, camps, junior teams, adult group classes, a players clinic, after school programs, team competition, and mini-camps. Kids classes and clinics meet once a week in multi-week sessions, and junior team players take part in matches that can last up to 2 hours. Campers are asked to bring a racket, a new can of balls, a snack, and water, and to wear non-marking, rubber-soled shoes.

• Ages: 6–18 years old
• Schedule: Year-round after school programs, camps, team competition, and mini-camps; kids classes and clinics meet once a week for 8 weeks or longer; junior team matches are scheduled every other Sunday afternoon and last up to 2 hours
• Price: Private lesson instruction is $120 per hour or $60 per half-hour; 10-lesson package for $1100 and 5-lesson package for $550 (rates apply for private or semi-private up to 2 students; $8 fee for each additional student in larger groups)

The program’s year-round scheduling of after school programs, camps, and team competition reflects its stated philosophy that a tennis player develops skills with consistent learning and practice over a consistent period of time. Junior teams range from Novice to Open levels, and mini-camps are offered during the Summer, Winter, and Spring Break periods. The players clinic is described as a physically demanding court workout that focuses on doubles strategy to prepare players for tournament match play. All rainouts for tennis classes are rescheduled to a later date, and there are no makeups for classes missed by a student for any reason. Matches are held at country clubs and tennis facilities primarily on the Westside, and families can register for classes online or through the Santa Monica Recscape. Richard Goldenson is listed as the contact for the Santa Monica Junior Tennis Team and Santa Monica Junior Tennis Academy classes and also teaches tennis classes at Santa Monica College, where anyone 18 years or older can take a tennis class taught by him.
