Brush Creek Nursery School offers nature-based play and learning, hands-on experiences, and play-based experiences. Children spend time in thoughtfully prepared classrooms and in ample outdoor space.

Brush Creek Nursery School in Santa Rosa has been preparing children for a lifelong love of learning since 1959. Beginning Fall 2026, Brush Creek Nursery School will welcome 2-year-olds into the program, and staff will thoughtfully accommodate diapering for 2-year-olds. The school is a private, nonprofit supported by tuition and community fundraising. Brush Creek offers a new Outdoor Explorer Program, which adds additional nature-based play and learning.

The mission of Brush Creek Nursery School is to meet the social-emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of each child, empowering them to become confident individuals with a lifelong excitement for learning. The mission states that the school is dedicated to creating a safe, nurturing environment where young children learn through hands-on and play-based experiences, and that its classrooms and outdoor space encourage curiosity and exploration while honoring all learning styles.

Brush Creek Nursery School was the first state-licensed nursery school in Santa Rosa and was one of the first Northern California preschools to become nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children for its quality program.

The leadership team includes Program Director Allyson Madrid; Site Supervisor/Teacher Tess Mellor; Teacher/Outdoor enrichment educator Brandy Rucker; and Teachers Nancy Libby, Heather Miller, Erin Fitchie, Janice Carpenter, and Vicki Briggs. Staff credentials include degrees and certificates in Child Development and Early Childhood Education, including an Associates degree in Child Development with specialization in site supervision and program director studies, ECE certificates and AA degrees in ECE through SRJC, a Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Certificate through SRJC, a BFA in Advertising and a multiple subject teaching credential with emphasis in ECE from San Francisco State, teaching and site supervisor permits through SRJC, and a Masters in the Arts of Teaching with a multi-subject teaching credential.
