About the provider
Santa Rosa Children’s Choral Academy was founded in 1984 as the Santa Rosa Children’s Chorus, and its name changed in 2017 to the Santa Rosa Children’s Choral Academy. The program’s stated goal is to discover musically oriented youth, to provide them with the opportunity to gain a rich musical education and to experience the challenges, training, and joy of choral excellence. Over the years, the chorus has performed with the Santa Rosa Symphony, the Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus, Opera Santa Rosa, the Sonoma County Bach Choir, and Ballet California’s production of The Nutcracker, and it has toured and performed in Italy, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, including venues such as the Wormser Dom, the wedding church from “The Sound of Music” in Salzburg, the steps of the Schönbrunn Palace, and a chapel in Esterhazy Palace.
Participation is for boys and girls from ages 6 through high school. To preserve the soprano and alto ranges of the Chorus, boys may remain members until their voices change. New members with no prior singing experience and between the ages of 6-12 are welcome to audition. Auditions are held throughout the year, and also specifically in early June, late August, and early January. Membership is described as a special commitment, with emphasis on being prepared and attending rehearsals and every concert.
