Jesse Cross and Doreen Cross lead Fort Cross Old Timey Adventures Outdoor Education Programs, with Jesse known as a dance caller and music man. Jesse started in the living history business around the year 2000 and launched Fort Cross about 10 years later on the back side of the family farm. Doreen’s daughter’s troop visited Fort Cross in June 2012, and Jesse and Doreen were married on April 4, 2015. They moved to Julian and in the spring of 2016 officially opened their business with the first annual Lilac Festival. The program began with a focus on survival skills and Native history and grew into agritourism, a rustic farm setting with events for all ages, and a wedding venue. School groups and other youth organizations come out to Fort Cross to enjoy a day of hands-on education. The stated goal of the program is to fortify their post with love and grace for everyone who comes and to help visitors feel welcome, like part of the family.
