Since 1997, The Reading Clinic has been helping students become more successful in school through one-to-one tutoring in reading, comprehension, spelling, writing, verbal expression, language comprehension, and math. As an academic remediation and learning center, its stated focus is on enhanced academic performance and self-esteem, and it provides students with a safe and accepting environment, engaging them in an ongoing process of discovery. The Reading Clinic is a Bay Area non-profit offering multi-sensory tutoring for reading, writing, comprehension, and dyslexia, and it uses and adapts research-based multi-sensory programs in a 1-to-1 dialogue-based format for children behind grade level and for children with learning differences or learning disabilities such as dyslexia, ADHD, and ASD. The program states that it delivers high quality and targeted interventions for struggling students, creates customized solutions to strengthen foundational academic abilities, and integrates multisensory, research-based methodologies that produce measurable results that last a lifetime.
According to the program, its approach has helped thousands of children who were behind several grade levels in reading, writing, and math to work independently at grade level, and has also helped children at grade level or in gifted programs to achieve mastery and enhance academic performance in language arts and math. The Reading Clinic reports that its unique approach to learning has provided children with a thirst for knowledge and a desire to improve and get ahead. The organization notes that it has four locations in the Bay Area, including San Francisco, and that it is now a non-profit organization helping Bay Area children with reading, writing, comprehension, expression, and writing. Rich is listed as the Manager of The Reading Clinic.
The Reading Clinic shares several testimonials, including one from Jessica Lindsay, a Stanford University graduate, who states, “For the first time in my life something in school is coming naturally. It’s easier for me to follow lectures, understand ideas and complete my homework.” Another testimonial from Debra Maddox, a mother and educational consultant, says that after six weeks of reading tutoring, “the results were miraculous,” and that her son went from being withdrawn and frustrated with school to being confident, happy, and enthusiastic about learning. Aileen Carew, a 2nd grade teacher, states that The Reading Clinic has instilled confidence in several of her students and that children in her class who graduated from the clinic have taught some reading in the classroom.
