About
Friendship Explorations is an outdoor-based group where children take part in sessions led by a licensed occupational therapist or speech therapist. Groups typically include 6 children with a 3:1 child-to-support ratio, and children are grouped by age and ability. Through a combination of teaching and unstructured play, the program addresses friendship and development skills through adventure, creativity, and connection to nature, while children are also being provided support and learning skills in sensory processing, emotional regulation, social play, following directions, sequencing, play skills, balance and strength, problem solving, and confidence building.
• Ages: 4–13 years old
• Schedule: Winter SERIES 2026 and Spring SERIES 2026 each run for 10 weeks with 2-hour after-school groups; separate February and Spring Break camps run Monday–Friday, 9:30 am–12:30 pm; Summer Camp 2026 runs in one-week sessions from June 15–August 19, Monday–Friday, 9:30 am–12:30 pm
• Price: Winter SERIES 2026 groups range from $1,540–$1,716; Spring SERIES 2026 groups range from $1,628–$1,804; February and Spring Break camps are $945; Summer Camp 2026 one-week sessions are $945 with a $25 discount for multiple weeks, plus a $100 non-refundable administrative fee applied toward the group cost, and optional hourly-fee consultation and summary report
All sessions are led by at least one licensed therapist and supported by occupational therapy students or volunteers. The program reviews each child’s therapeutic needs and parent goals before groups start and customizes group plans based on individual needs. For group series, families receive a weekly email report explaining activities and their therapeutic benefits along with a weekly photo log, and for camps they receive a daily email report and daily photo log. Groups run rain or shine, and one-to-one aides can be provided for an additional fee or families may have their own aide accompany the child. Consultation with OT/SLP leaders is available at an hourly rate with a 30-minute minimum, and a 2–3 page summary report is available after completion of the group or camp experience at an hourly rate.
The stated goal of Friendship Explorations is to provide a playful outdoor experience for children who may have trouble in a traditional setting. The program states that it spends time getting to know each child’s background before groups start and recognizes the importance of good group dynamics, carefully considering both age and developmental level when organizing each session. It also states that it strives to make outdoor summer camp a reality for all kids, regardless of ability, and offers additional services to support each child’s needs.
A parent from Camp 2018 reported that their son was very enthusiastic about attending Friendship Explorations summer camp, enjoyed using tools in nature and his imagination, and talked about his “flexible brain.” The parent also noted receiving pictures and a lengthy write-up at the end of each day and described having a separate question about their child addressed with suggestions from Corry.
