Gnomies Youth Makers Camp is geared for children in TK–3rd grade and is separate from Gnomies’ licensed preschool programs. The camp follows a philosophy of “Process over product; Exploration over perfection; Collaboration over competition; Confidence through creativity.” Gnomies describes its broader program as a holistic, child-centered, hands-on learning environment with a focus on nature, creativity, and play, using an evolving, emergent curriculum based on children’s interests and placing a heavy emphasis on outdoor education. Weekly walks to Ragle Ranch Park include unstructured and open-ended lessons such as exploring a grove of redwoods, climbing California oaks, hiking the Blackberry Trail, studying birds and wildlife, and building forts with natural, found materials of the forest.

The larger Gnomies program notes a teacher-to-child ratio of 1:7 and four indoor classrooms, including a front room with cubbies, library, window nook, kitchen, and tables for projects and puzzles; a middle room with a block rug, Magnatile builds, train table, play kitchen, and dramatic play area; and an art room with a sensory table, a teacher-facilitated project table, an independent child-led table, and easels. The yard includes trikes, a large sandbox, and a wooden ship for climbing and sliding, and the daily schedule incorporates organic snack, music and movement, yoga and meditation, and a closing circle-time. A parent testimonial from Victoria Levy describes appreciation for “Tara + team,” mentions that both of her children have attended, and highlights art, music, dancing, special projects, and summer camps as part of their family’s experience with Gnomies.
