About
ZipLine Improv Kids' Summer Camp offers improv and narrative filmmaking activities. The program includes games and exercises that focus on getting participants out of their judging minds and into a state of flow, along with exploration of scenework and the basic elements that make improv work. It also includes exploration of the physicality of improv and character creation.
• Ages: 8–17 years old
• Schedule: June 15 - 19
The program’s mission statement is “Laughter + Life Skills.” Unique features include a focus on improv and narrative filmmaking, as well as classes, group trainings, individual coaching, private events, and performances. Beginning improv and Teen Improv at ZipLine Improv are described as a gentle and super fun introduction to the world of improv, and classes communicate why listening, accepting one another’s offers, and letting go of an agenda can lead to what they describe as magic.
Parent and student comments about ZipLine Improv include: “Wow, and thank you. I was hoping for and expecting fun. But not that much!” from Shyama B. Another parent, Sheridith M., says that Laura creates a rich “safe” environment where foundational improv skills can be learned while everyone in class is having a blast playing together. Janine B. shares that Laura creates a very safe and comfortable container to learn improv and notes unexpected benefits in feeling different about being in front of a group after class exercises. Kate P. says that Laura builds upon the fundamentals and teaches the ins and outs of improv while Kate is having what she calls the best time of her life. Andy B. says they have enjoyed getting to know everyone and themselves more through improv and calls that experience priceless.
