Tree House Hollow Preschool – Creekside Campus, 700 Watertrough Road, Sebastopol, CA 95473
About
Tree House Hollow Preschool includes daily activities such as art, stories, songs, movement, building, creating, story writing, and cooperative games and projects. Children take part in field trips, go on nature walks, explore nature in the play spaces, harvest from the garden, and help prepare snack. The program also includes work with math skills, reading skills, and writing skills, and older Creekside students who attend at least three days per week have an Adventure Day weekly field trip to regional parks, with transportation provided by the school.
• Ages: 2–5 years old
• Schedule: School year runs from August through the following July, with half-day and full-day options and morning care available
Tree House Hollow Preschool is a small, private non-profit, environmentally-based preschool that follows an emergent, developmentally appropriate curriculum based on children’s interests. The program approaches academics through children’s play as it naturally arises, rather than focusing on “school readiness skills.” The school follows the Twin Hills USD calendar for the school start date, Winter Break, and Spring Break closures. Organic food is served, snack is made each day usually with the children, and snack is usually self-serve but also family style. Appropriate play clothing for all types of weather and spare clothing are required, and the program operates as a mostly indoor/outdoor school with a garden and play area offering places for children to explore and use their natural sense of wonder.
Tree House Hollow Preschool enrolls children 2 to 5 years old in two campuses, with Redwood serving 2-year-olds and young 3s and Creekside serving 3- to 5-year-olds. The program has a low ratio of students to teachers, with 2–3 fully qualified and experienced teachers and a Campus Director who can shift between administrative and teaching roles as needed. Staff have a lot of experience and a deep understanding of child development and are skilled at guiding children through the process of finding solutions to problems. The program emphasizes cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution, a bottom-line expectation of physical and emotional safety for all, and instilling a reverence for Mother Earth through activities such as field trips, art, stories, songs, movement, and exploring nature. Tree House Hollow Preschool is licensed by Community Care Licensing, State of California, and is regularly inspected and observed by Community Care Licensing. According to the program, about one-third of children go on to Apple Blossom, about one-third to Waldorf-inspired schools, and about one-third to private, charter, or home school programs.
