About
Tree House Hollow Preschool includes daily activities such as harvesting from the garden, preparing snack, going on nature walks, exploring the nature in the play spaces, and joining in cooperative games and projects. Children spend time building, creating, story writing, doing art, listening to stories and songs, and taking part in movement activities. The program also includes field trips, a weekly Adventure Day field trip to regional parks, and riding in the van together.
• Ages: 2–5 years old
• Schedule: Half-day and full-day options with morning care; school year runs from August through July and follows the Twin Hills USD calendar for start date, Winter Break, and Spring Break closures
Tree House Hollow Preschool is a small, private non-profit, environmentally-based preschool that describes its philosophy as approaching academics through children’s play as it naturally arises. The curriculum is described as developmentally appropriate and emergent, based on observing children’s interests, and includes field trips, art, stories, songs, and movement with an emphasis on exploring nature and instilling a reverence for Mother Earth. The program notes a low ratio of students to teachers, small group size with mixed ages, and a stated bottom-line expectation of physical and emotional safety for all, with an emphasis on cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution. The program serves organic food and requires appropriate play clothing for all types of weather conditions, with spare clothing requested.
The Redwood Campus is for 2-year-olds and young 3s, and the Creekside Campus is for 3–5-year-olds. The program describes itself as mostly an indoor/outdoor school, with garden and play areas that offer places for children to explore and use their natural sense of wonder, and notes that Adventure Day ensures most older Creekside students who attend three or more days have one full class day in nature, with transportation for Adventure Day provided by the school.
Tree House Hollow Preschool states that it has 2–3 fully qualified and experienced teachers, and that the Campus Director is hands-on and available to shift from an administrative to a teaching role as needed. Teachers use documentation to reflect on each child and the group. The preschool is licensed by Community Care Licensing, State of California, with separate facility license numbers for the Creekside and Redwood campuses, and the program is regularly inspected and observed by Community Care Licensing.
