Neutral Grounds Jiu-Jitsu Academy offers classes in jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling, self defense, and sports training. The program includes self defense and sports training for all levels. It is also a USA Wrestling charter club.
• Ages: 4–18 years old for Jiu-Jitsu; 7–18 years old for Muay Thai; 7–18 years old for Wrestling
• Schedule: No walk-ins; families are asked to contact the academy to schedule a free intro class, and no intro classes are offered from 06/08/26–06/19/26
Neutral Grounds Jiu-Jitsu Academy was established in 2003 and is described as the first jiu-jitsu academy in Long Beach, CA. The academy states that “Self Defense is a Life Skill.” Head Instructor Prof. Evaldo Lima served in the Brazilian Air Force and has experience with jiu-jitsu in defense tactics and self defense, and he has earned multiple titles, including IBJJF World Masters Champion (gold medal in 2017), Pan American Champion, European Open Champion, British Nationals double gold with his son, regional IBJJF gold medals in Dallas, Las Vegas, and Long Beach, and submission grappling titles at the UFC Fan Expo Grappler’s Quest and “Best of the West.” He was appointed a board member of the Kuwait International BJJ Federation in 2017 and has traveled internationally for seminars. Kru Woody heads the Muay Thai program and has been with the academy for 14 years. Coach Jorge coaches wrestling and also coaches at Marina High School and previously coached at Millikan High School. All assistant jiu-jitsu instructors are from Neutral Grounds and have 8–12 years of training. The academy notes that kids’ group jiu-jitsu classes for ages 6–8 are on wait list status only and that there is a three-month new enrollment promotion that includes a uniform. The academy lists a partner, Chokeology by Raising Beasts.
