Sonoma Conservatory of Dance is a nonprofit dance studio. Its mission is “Nurturing the growth and expression of young people through the art and discipline of dance. We expand access to high-quality dance education so all can participate, regardless of financial circumstances.” The studio is positioned to serve as many students as possible regardless of their family's financial circumstances.
The program was founded as Sonoma Ballet Conservatory in 1970 by Beth Marie Deenihan. Patty O’Reilly re-envisioned the studio as Sonoma Conservatory of Dance in 2005 after 12 years of directing the Vallejo Ballet Conservatory, which she had founded in 1993. Paperwork for 501(c)3 status was completed in 2016, and the following year was Sonoma Conservatory of Dance's first full year of operating as a nonprofit. The program is under the Artistic Direction of Ms. O’Reilly.
Students train together under the mentorship of an excellent staff of instructors who create an outstanding classroom environment as well as high-quality performances. To date, Sonoma Conservatory of Dance students have competed in the Margot Fonteyn (previously Genée) International Ballet Competition, Youth America Grand Prix, and the RAD Dance Challenge. Students have been accepted into dance programs including American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet, Kaatsbaan Extreme Ballet, and Royal Ballet School of Antwerp, and have been wait-listed for the Summer Programme of the Royal Ballet School in London.
Sonoma Conservatory of Dance states that it is dedicated to making a positive impact in the community and believes in the power of collaboration. It invites participation in upcoming events and initiatives and states that strong partnerships with families and the surrounding community are essential to every dancer’s journey. It states that everyone deserves the chance to dance, regardless of financial circumstances, and that as a nonprofit it is positioned to serve as many students as possible regardless of their family's financial circumstances. Through its performances, it provides the community with an opportunity to gather together and enjoy an inspiring, enchanting event.
