The Montessori School of Sonoma

The Montessori School of Sonoma follows Maria Montessori’s methods and theories of child development and early learning. In the Montessori classrooms, children work with materials that often do not use paper, where the result of the work is described as internal, such as muscles developed, senses made more acute, and intellect given more information. The classroom environment is described as attractive and orderly, with attention to quality and detail, and is set up so that children can easily access materials and choose individual activities that match their own periods of interest.

The Montessori School of Sonoma is a private nonprofit organization established in August 1972. It offers five individual programs: Infant, Toddler, Preschool, Kindergarten, and Childcare. The school states that its Montessori method aims to build the child’s self-discipline, self-motivation, and self-confidence to allow the child to fulfill their own potential. The organization is fully licensed by the state of California and the State Department of Education and is professionally affiliated with the American Montessori Society and Every Child California. The school states that it does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, or sexual orientation and prohibits sexual harassment, and that this nondiscrimination policy covers admission, access, and treatment in school programs and activities.
