International Ballet Theater Institute was founded by Alexei Badrak and Ronna Roberts. The faculty have trained, coached, directed, and choreographed for artists in companies, theaters, and academies such as American Ballet Theatre (ABT), the Bolshoi Ballet Theater, and top universities and colleges, and have prepared young professionals for film, TV, Broadway, and athletic arts. IBTI staff and faculty are known for top pre-professional and professional training programs, and the organization is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit.
The mission of International Ballet Theater Institute is to enrich the lives of students from very young children to adults and seniors in a range of dance styles and theater arts, with special attention to students who are especially gifted in ballet, and to prepare them for careers as professional artists or collegiate programs or to expand their knowledge of the arts. The mission also states a goal to encourage academic excellence and to provide elite artists for professional world-class companies. IBTI describes its training as high caliber, world-class classical ballet training based on Russian methodology, with an internationally proven methodology and consistent results.
The program offers small classes, individual attention, and specialty classes for young children, teens, adults, and seniors, including avocation programs for boys and girls ages 3–6, youth ages 7–12, teens ages 13–18, and adult men and women, as well as senior programs. It offers a full range of proprietary programs for students of all ages, including classes for charter and home school students, and online registration for classes through the City of Stockton. IBTI also offers pop-up classes and free online demos of classes, and states that it continually seeks a main permanent facility and satellite locations in San Joaquin County.
Preparatory/Professional Program participation is determined by a highly selective audition process. The program is described as designed for rapid progression, precise technical skills, greatly increased artistic capabilities, and strong stage technique, with a primary goal of producing elite, classically trained artists who are versatile in a range of dance styles and cultures to prepare for stages around the world. IBTI highlights exceptional faculty, individualized attention, unique proprietary programs, and a vibrant, nurturing environment, and states that it is known for nurturing artistic excellence, quality, and a meaningful presence of mind that will serve to enrich the life of each student regardless of future career choices.
These classes are administered by the City of Stockton Parks and Recreation. IBTI’s Inter-net Education, outreach, touring, performance, and exchange programs are committed to making high caliber art available to students in local communities, nationally, and in other countries.
Parent testimonials describe the teachers, including Mr. Alexei and Ms. Ronna, as dedicated and passionate about ballet and teaching, and note that small classes allow teachers to focus on all students and provide instruction that parents describe as quality. Parents report that their children had no prior dance experience and learned a lot within about 10 months, and one parent states that the family chooses to drive 21 miles farther because they consider IBTI the best. Other parents describe the owners and teachers as professional and helpful, say that classes are structured and that children learn technique and style, and recommend the school for learning fundamentals and being trained correctly.
