The program offers activities for beginning skaters through advanced players, with Colts Academy for beginners to intermediate players and Colts Competitive Travel Hockey for intermediate to advanced players. The club is a member of the Northern California Junior Hockey Association (Norcal), the California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA), and USA Hockey, and is also a member of these organizations as part of its community involvement.
The Stockton Colts Player Development Program focuses on assisting players in developing their passion and skill for the game as quickly and efficiently as possible. A/B teams are offered to provide a balance of skill development and competition in Northern California, with teams for boys and girls ages 5–18. Pick-Up Hockey is limited to 30 players per session (15 per team plus 2 goalies) with two teams per age level, and players who receive a second warning for poor behavior under the USA Hockey Code of Conduct are removed from the program with no refunds.
Spring Clinics are for players who have played at least one season of travel hockey and are looking to develop their individual skill set, including skating, shooting, passing, stickhandling, and mental toughness, and goalies are included. Colts Academy Spring Clinic is for academy players and 8U travel players who want to continue to develop their skills or try out for a travel team in June, with each session including 45–60 minutes of skill work and 15–30 minutes of small-area games. Learn The Hockey, 6U, 8U & Cross ice games class is for young or new-to-hockey players and includes station drills on fundamentals plus cross-ice games, and gear can be rented for this class by those coming from Try Hockey 4 Free. On Wednesday nights, Colts Academy players work through different on-ice stations on skating, stickhandling, shooting, and passing, and on Saturdays they go through a simulated game experience that exposes them to understanding the game, ice awareness, pattern recognition, and problem solving.
