About

Daruma Dojo Kids & Teens Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo Programs offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, BJJ competition training, and BJJ 101 classes. The program includes weekly Judo classes that teach traditional Judo techniques through repeated practice and randori (live sparring). BJJ 101 sessions cover essential vocabulary, key concepts, and best practices, with a focus on positional fundamentals, warm-ups, dojo culture, cultural insights, foundational positions, and positional sparring games.

• Ages: 4–15 years old
• Schedule: Judo classes are available on Fridays and Saturdays

The kids classes are divided by age and skill level. The Junior BJJ program for ages 4–6 combines playful, engaging activities with fundamental Jiu-Jitsu techniques. The Youth BJJ program for ages 7–9 focuses on developing Jiu-Jitsu skills through fun, challenging exercises while promoting discipline and respect. The Honor Roll program for ages 8–15 is invitational-only for students at grey belt and above who meet specific attitudes and expected behaviors. The Teen BJJ program for ages 10–15 offers a blend of technical skill development and physical conditioning.

The program welcomes all genders and people with special needs. It also supports students with special needs by focusing on social skills, concentration, body awareness, and fostering friendships within the community.

The founder and head instructor is Prof. Alberto Juarez, who is a 3rd degree black belt in Jiu-Jitsu under Ricardo Barros and holds a Judo black belt from SJSU instructor David Williams. Alberto has a BS in Kinesiology from San Jose State University and has 20 years of experience training adults and children in martial arts, starting Jiu-Jitsu in 2003. The leadership team also includes instructors Guilherme Giglio, Noah Myers, Sevey Lee, and Joshua Carter.

The program’s mission is to create a space where families grow stronger together, and students of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels feel supported, challenged, and inspired. It is described as a family-oriented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy known for technical excellence and a strong culture of belonging, personal growth, and community.
