About

Youth Programs at Maker Nexus include after school programs, home school programs, week-long camps, and hands-on projects. Participants can build their own combat robots, solder a “neon” light, learn to make a pen on wood lathes, and work on building toys, jewelry, leathercrafting, stained glass, woodworking, and welding. The program also uses tools and equipment such as handheld and CNC plasma cutters, metal mills and lathes, metalworking tools, lampworking torches, stained glass tools, sewing machines and sergers, long arm quilting, CNC embroidery, electronics lab tools, 3D printers, laser cutters, and a CNC vinyl cutter for sign making.

• Ages: 10–18 years old
• Schedule: Open 7 days a week from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, with closures on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day, and limited hours on New Year's Eve
• Price: Hobbyist membership: $160/month. Hobbyist Family memberships for two family members: $210/month, with additional family members for $50/month. Family Add-Ons for a spouse or child from the same household: $50/month. Education (Full-Time Student and K-12 Teacher) memberships: $100/month. Limited membership: $75/month.

Maker Nexus requires safety training before using tools, offers this training at a 30% discount for members, and allows tool reservations on select tools after training. Maker Nexus opened in April 2019, moved to a larger building in summer 2021, and in 2024 offered over 1000 classes, educated nearly 800 local young people, and hosted 114 community events. Maker Nexus states that it empowers people of all ages and backgrounds to learn, create, and innovate, and that it lowers barriers to craftsmanship, builds confidence, creates opportunity, and fosters a culture of creativity and resourcefulness across the region. Maker Nexus is a registered California non-profit corporation with 501(c)(3) status and is dedicated to providing an inviting and harassment-free experience for everyone as described in its community statement. It coordinated with volunteer makers and donors to deliver close to half a million units of PPE at no charge to healthcare professionals locally and across the country.
