About
Youth Horse Camps at Green Acres Ranch offers seasonal horse camps during Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter that include daily horseback riding lessons, ranch life, and hands-on time with farm animals. Campers take part in barn activities such as learning about tack, ground handling, breeds and colors, anatomy, bathing and grooming, and basic health care, along with crafts, riding games, and horse craft projects. Summer sessions also include afternoon water activities, swimming, and a pool party, and camps provide a daily snack and end with a horse craft and snack.
• Ages: 6–12 years old
• Schedule: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter day camps typically run 9:00 AM–3:00 PM in 3- to 5-day sessions
• Price: $350.00–$475.00 per camp session
The camp’s stated focus is on teaching children to be safe and comfortable around horses while building a foundation of solid horsemanship, and the curriculum focuses on fun, horsemanship, and safety. Campers take horsemanship classes, join hands-on horse and farm activities, and may attend educational activities and demonstrations on topics such as shoeing, showmanship, reproduction, and veterinary care. Advanced Camp is invitation only for Green Acres Lesson Program students currently enrolled in a 10-week session at the Gold level or higher, includes a daily clinic with one of the top trainers on the property in a variety of disciplines, and ends with a pool party and awards ceremony.
Green Acres camp counselors are all CPR and First Aid certified. Green Acres Ranch is a public facility open to all breeds and disciplines and is home to multiple National and World Championship trainers. Green Acres Ranch has been owned and operated by the Rich family since 1957, with leadership by Margaret Rich and her children Roy and Katherine, and family members Margaret Rich, Roy Rich, Katherine Rich-Elzig, and Liz Henry, and the ranch notes that it is celebrating over 60 years of business. Green Acres Ranch lists local and equestrian-related organizations and businesses, including the City of Temecula, Temecula Valley Chamber of Commerce, Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association, and various equestrian associations and local businesses, in a “Green Acres Neighbors & Resource Guide.”
Campers are asked to bring a sack lunch, with refrigeration and a microwave available, and a daily snack is provided. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required for riding and activities around the animals, and families are advised to pack bottled water, sunscreen, and, for Summer Camp water activities, proper swimming attire and towels; water bottle refill stations, storage cubbies, and guidance to wear layers and label belongings are provided. One parent testimonial describes the ranch as “kid friendly” with “kind, sweet, and patient staff,” and others note the balance of riding, crafts, and swimming at camp, as well as the chance to pet sheep, dogs, a goat, and cows.
