About

Youth Horse Camps at Green Acres Ranch offers seasonal horse camps during Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter that include daily horseback riding lessons, ranch life and farm activities, and hands-on time with farm animals. Campers take part in horsemanship classes, lessons on body positioning and control over steering and speed, fun riding games, barn activities, and educational horse-related activities such as tack, ground handling, breeds and colors, anatomy, bathing and grooming, and basic health care. Camps also include crafts, a daily snack, and, in Summer only, afternoon water activities, swimming, and a pool party, along with opportunities for petting sheep, dogs, a goat, and cows after lessons.

• Ages: 6–12 years old
• Schedule: Spring and Summer camps are 5-day day camps from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM; Fall and Advanced camps are 3-day day camps from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM; Winter camps run from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM in two dated sessions
• Price: Spring Camp $475 (5 days); Summer Camp $475 (5 days); Fall Camp $350 (3 days); Winter Camp Session I $350; Winter Camp Session II $400; Advanced Camp $400 (3 days)

The camp’s stated focus is on teaching children to be safe and comfortable around horses while building a foundation of solid horsemanship. Green Acres camp counselors are all CPR and First Aid certified. Advanced Camp is invitation only for Green Acres Lesson Program students currently enrolled in a 10-week session at the Gold level or higher, and campers in Advanced Camp have a daily clinic with one of the ranch’s top trainers in a variety of disciplines and end camp with a pool party and awards ceremony. Campers are asked to bring a sack lunch, bottled water, sunscreen, long pants, and closed-toe shoes, with storage cubbies, water bottle refill stations, refrigeration, and a microwave available, and a daily snack provided; those joining Summer water activities are asked to bring swimming attire and towels.

Green Acres Ranch has been owned and operated by the Rich family since 1957 and is led by Margaret Rich and her children, Roy and Katherine. The ranch is home to multiple National and World Championship trainers and was established as a private family ranch for breeding, training, and showing Arabians before becoming a public facility open to all breeds and disciplines. Green Acres Ranch participates in a local neighbors and resource guide that lists equestrian-related organizations, charter schools, local vendors, and community partners.

Parent and rider testimonials describe the ranch as a place where children start horseback riding lessons and camps, mention kid-friendly and patient staff, and note that the ranch is family owned and operated. Testimonials also mention that the ranch is large, that the horses are well cared for, that there are additional animals on the property that are nice to pet after lessons, and that riders range from beginners to fully experienced participants.
