About

South Bay Judo offers judo classes that include throwing techniques, grappling techniques, and a conditioning and competition workout. Classes also include a cardio workout and are part of a yearlong judo program that runs multiple sessions throughout the year. The program offers three classes, held two times a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays between 4:45 pm and 9:15 pm in four main sessions each year, with each session consisting of 18 classes over about 9–10 weeks, plus an additional holiday conditioning and competition session for returning students.

South Bay Judo is a Torrance Charter Club, and classes are offered through the City of Torrance. The judo program called Sessions runs four times a year for new and returning students: Winter (1Q), Spring (2Q), Summer (3Q), and Fall (4Q), with a Holiday Workouts session in November and December for returning students only. South Bay Judo has been a Torrance Charter Club since 1999 and states its mission as “Helping to Strengthen the South Bay Community! ‘Building Character – Honor – Respect.’” Judo in this program is described as an Olympic sport practiced worldwide and as a physical workout that increases stamina, strength, and endurance, with cardio exercise for kids, youth, and adults. The program description also states that judo promotes mental toughness, discipline, respect, helps to instill confidence, teaches self-defense and self-control, and can be practiced to cross train for balance, agility, speed, quickness, and power.
