At Catalyst Kids, the organization has created enriching, engaging, and exciting child-centered programming for 50 years. Catalyst Kids Camps are offered during school breaks in the summer, spring, and winter, and the programs focus on discovery, play, and engagement while supporting Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics concepts. Camp activities promote learning and skill building in a real-world atmosphere, and campers get the opportunity to practice what they learn during the school year, make connections, and engage in topics they want to know more about. Camp promotes an active and healthy lifestyle with healthy snacks, meals, and physical activity, and staff provide a platform for children to develop their physical, emotional, and social skills by choosing group activities, trying new and silly things, and enjoying themselves with familiar faces.
Catalyst Kids states that its programs are inclusive and teach, inspire, and promote self-guided learning opportunities, and its programming is described as child-led, family-centered, and community-minded. The education philosophy is based on the belief that all children are competent and capable learners and learn best through hands-on, active experiences and authentic, positive relationships, and trusting relationships between families and staff are described as the cornerstone of the program. Programs strive to be supportive of the family, including parents who are in school, foster families, homeless families, and those working or seeking employment, and many centers provide subsidized child care programs.
All Preschool and Infant/Toddler centers participate in the California Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), all Catalyst Kids programs participate in a rigorous internal quality rating program, and centers are licensed by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division. Catalyst Kids operates over 150 centers throughout the State of California, serving over 8,000 children, and is headquartered in Morgan Hill with regional offices in Morgan Hill, Sacramento, and Irvine, California.
Reciprocal relationships with community-based organizations and school districts result in cohesive services for children and families, and Catalyst Kids partners with twenty-nine school districts to provide before and after school programs, preschool, and camps. Community is described as being at the heart of everything Catalyst Kids does, and its programming exists because of the communities it serves.
Parent and child testimonials describe appreciation for support with what children are learning at school, improvements in children’s self-esteem and social skills, and having a safe place to learn. Families note that children come home with new art projects and games, that the program is focused on summer activities along with educational activities, and that children learn about places, things, professional people from field trips, and how to play with other kids, share games and toys, and help others. Parents also describe Catalyst Kids as providing consistency, a strong educational foundation, and trustworthy childcare that supports their daily lives, and one child describes loving Catalyst Kids because every day is a favorite day, with teachers helping and making children smile and many best friends at the program.
