Bionerds Biology Kids Workshop was born in September 2015 in Orange County, California. It was founded with a mission to nurture curiosity, share lifetime passion and give opportunities for the younger generation to learn about biology through self-discovery. The program is a family business with some co-founders who were kids when it started.

All Bionerds teachers are college graduates with Biology or other Science degrees or experiences, have been cleared from background check, TB, and drug tests, and are CPR certified. The leadership team includes founder and president Diana Dizon, Program Operations Manager Anika Kenion, Curriculum Team Lead/Educator Associate Eric Fan, Marketing Team Lead/Educator Associate Sandra Leo, Marketing Team Lead Assistant/Educator Associate Elizabeth Mesic, and Educator Associates Amanda Weiss, Ariana Sanchez, Evie Andrade, and Janiel Staana.

The program offers after-school programs at schools, one-day or week-long camps with biology hands-on activities for kids, birthday or private party packages, home school or individualized programs, Bionerds Online Classes, In-Person Safety Protocols, an At-Home Project Competition to win a weekly online class and a free Bionerds T-shirt, and a Bionerds Reward Program to earn points for free Bionerds T-shirts, lab coats, and patches. Girl Scouts of OC can earn badges, join the Journey program, and receive patches. The public is invited to join monthly field trips to different nature sites in Orange County, and the citizen science outdoor programs allow young wildlife and ecology enthusiasts to contribute data to scientists.

Bionerds Biology Kids Workshop is featured in the February 2023 issue of Parenting OC magazine: Summer Camp Support. It has been chosen as Best Science/Tech Camp for the 20th Annual Readers’ Choice Award of Parenting OC magazine and has been voted Best Science and Tech Camp yearly from 2016–2023. Bionerds is listed as one of The Coolest After-School Classes in the Country by the Red Tricycle family website.
