Century Dancesport offers private 1-on-1 instruction with an instructor, adult group classes dedicated to learning the basics of Ballroom and Latin dances, and options to learn a choreographed performance routine to a song of the participant’s choosing. The program includes instruction in specific dances such as Cha Cha, Mambo, Waltz, Salsa, Two-Step, Rumba, Samba, Tango, West Coast Swing, Merengue, East Coast Swing, Paso Doble, Foxtrot, Bachata, Night Club Two-Step, Bolero, Jive, and Viennese Waltz. The studio also offers First Dance lessons for wedding or “partners for life” couples, as well as competition preparation with a teacher from beginner to advanced levels.
• Schedule: Adult Ballroom Classes are offered Mondays at 7 PM (Beginner), Tuesdays at 7 PM (Solo Latin Drills), Wednesdays at 7 PM (Technique), and Thursdays at 7 PM (Advanced Solo Technique), with Social Dances on select Wednesdays from 8 to 9:30 PM.
Century Dancesport’s mission is to expose individuals to the excitement and joy of Ballroom and Latin dance, no matter their individual experience or skill, with a focus on each person’s specific desires and goals and inspiring a love of dance. The program notes that in group classes every dancer gets a chance to dance with different people, and that singles, couples, groups, and friends are all welcome. Recommended clothing is anything comfortable that allows arms and legs to move freely, and recommended shoes are comfortable, secure shoes with a flexible sole, with the option to purchase ballroom-specific shoes from the “Very Fine” catalog if someone is seriously committed to continuous lessons.
The leadership and staff team includes Dance Director and Co-Owner Eddie Alba, Co-Owner Nasirn Mofrad, Office Managers Victoria Serra and Alexandra Varesi, Receptionist Jessica Janssen, and instructors Luis Grijalva, Peter Krajewski, and Oxana Kashkina. Instructor Luis Grijalva has over 30 years of experience, is an internationally recognized dancer, performer, and instructor, has appeared on Dancing with the Stars, is a 3-time Sábado Gigante Dance Champion, a World Mambo Finalist, a Canadian Rising Star Rhythm Champion, a finalist in the Open to the World Rhythm competition, was handpicked and invited to teach at the Lincoln Center in New York, and performed in the off-Broadway show “Take the Floor” that performed in the Cairo Opera House in Alexandria, Egypt. Instructor Peter Krajewski began dancing at age six, is a Polish National Champion and World Semi-Finalist, has won numerous international competitions across Europe and the United States, has television and film appearances including as a lead dancer on the TV show Name the Tune, has worked as a professional dancer, coach, and collegiate judge, and teaches all levels in International Standard and Latin, American Smooth and Rhythm, and a wide range of social dances. Instructor Oxana Kashkina is from a small city in Siberia near the Ural Mountains, has a background in gymnastics, martial arts, and ballroom dance, has been dancing competitively since age 6, was an Amateur 10-dancer, has a degree in English to become a teacher, moved to the United States to hone skills in language and dance, is currently an Open Professional 9-dance Finalist and Mambo National Finalist, and took 2nd Place in the World Salsa Championships.
