About
Santa Cruz NJB is a youth basketball program where players take part in basketball games and events such as a Slam Dunk Tournament, Hot Shot Tournament, All-Star Championships, All-Star Regionals Championship, and an All-Stars Tournament. Everyone plays at Santa Cruz NJB; when a parent registers an athlete, every player makes a team, pending coaching and registration numbers.

NJB is California's largest youth basketball league for over 38 years, and the local chapter in Santa Cruz was established in 2022. Santa Cruz NJB plays its games within the Silicon Valley NJB Section. The organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that exists to promote community through basketball, and it seeks volunteers to coach boys and possibly girls teams and to contribute time, talent, and expertise in a variety of areas. The leadership team includes Head Coach Sean Breidenthal, Assistant Coach Chris Carlock, Head Coach Chris Dougherty, Assistant Coach Nick Barrett, Coach Wes, Assistant Coach Brett, Coach Isaiah, and Assistant Coach Brett. NJB's 2024–2025 Division 1 Team (7th and 8th graders) took 1st place in the Regionals Slam Dunk Tournament, marking the third year Division 1 has won the Regional Championship for NJB in Santa Cruz. NJB's 2024–2025 Division 2 Team (5th and 6th graders) took 1st place in the Regionals Hot Shot Tournament, becoming the first Division 2 Regional Champions for NJB in Santa Cruz, and Division 2 made it to the All-Star Championships. NJB's 2023–2024 Division 1 Tropics Team (7th and 8th graders) took 1st place in Regionals, was the only undefeated team in Division 1, made it to the All-Star Championships, and took 2nd place in the All-Star Regionals Championship, which was the second year of back-to-back Regional Champions for NJB in Santa Cruz. NJB's 2022–2023 Division 1 Heat Team (7th and 8th graders) took 1st place in Regionals in the first year for NJB in Santa Cruz, was the only team in Division 1, made it to the All-Stars Tournament, and took 3rd place in the All-Stars Regional Championship.
