TPSF Summer Academy is part of a non-profit organization made up of community volunteers who raise money and fund programs and materials that enhance the educational experiences of Tustin Unified School District students. The organization reports supporting robotics programs at each of Tustin Unified’s 10 secondary and 18 elementary schools and providing funds for an after-school sports program at all Tustin Unified middle schools. It reports awarding 137 grants to TUSD teachers in a year, working with 725 volunteers who contributed 13,500 volunteer hours, and impacting 22,000 students annually. The organization states that it has been helping students in the Tustin community accomplish their educational dreams since 1989 and that its mission is to mobilize the community and its resources to further excellence in Tustin Unified schools. The leadership team includes Kate Kersten as President, Kirsten Antonius as President Elect/Parliamentarian, and Allison Hatcher as Vice President of Community Relations. One testimonial describes TPSF programs as “generating such amazing results” and “pushing the school curriculum forward in the most innovative, ‘21st-century’ directions,” and another states, “There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.”
