• Ages: 6–18 years old
Since opening in October 2003, Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club has served over four thousand youth. The organization is a non-profit 501(C)3 aligned with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). Its mission is “To inspire and empower the youth and teens of our community, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens in a fun and safe environment.” Community involvement includes partnerships with Vacaville Community Housing for the Acacia Center and the Teen Center at the Meadows, and a subcontract with the Vacaville Unified School District to operate the After School Education and Safety (ASES) program at Fairmont, Hemlock, Markham, and Padan Elementary Schools. The Club stayed open throughout the pandemic crisis to help youth find continuity, support and resilience, and it has a stated goal that all Club members graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and leading a healthy lifestyle. Summer registration is open to the public, with online registration and paper applications available in English and Spanish, including a teen application. Paper applications can be picked up at the Trower Center, and families can also tour the Trower site in 360 degrees. The organization’s history includes its start in 2001, the first site chartered in 2003, an additional site at the Trower Center in 2005, two extensions opened in 2014, another extension in 2015, and the latest site added at Jepson Middle School in 2018, followed by subcontracting with the school district in 2019. Community investments and strong leadership are cited as driving catalysts of the Club, and community involvement and support are cited as important for giving Vacaville’s most disadvantaged youth the opportunity to be successful in life.
The leadership team includes CEO Anna Eaton; Executive Director (hired in 2003) Montoya Graham; Director of Operations Will Mosley; Resource Development Director Kelsey Spencer; Admin Barbara Hernandez; and an Executive Board Committee with President David Esparza, Vice President/Resource Development Mike Johnson, Secretary Lisette Estrella-Henderson, and Treasurer Lissette Mora. Board members include Cherie Stagg, Curtis Hunt, Eszard Martin, Ian Schumtlzer, Janet Jackson Forbes, Michelle Sabolich, Rob Frankenburg, and Sam Corsello. The organization notes hip hop recording artist Ashanti as a celebrity alumni of Boys & Girls Clubs. One youth member, Zacary Johnson, stated, “That’s why I come here.”
