About

Meals in Motion Cooking Education Programs offers hands-on cooking classes, community cooking classes, in-home cooking classes, and cooking classes for kids, families, and small groups. Meals in Motion Cooking Education Programs is a California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit culinary education program that serves children, families, and seniors. The program offers free, hands-on cooking education for underserved families, children, and seniors, and also offers in-home private cooking classes for kids, families, and small groups, with paid in-home classes helping to support free community programs. Program content includes nutrition, food budgeting, kitchen safety, food safety and sanitation, healthy meal preparation, smart shopping, budget-friendly grocery planning, and food waste reduction, with a focus on cooking as a family and bringing families back to the table. The mission of Meals in Motion is to empower children and families in the fight against food insecurity by providing underserved and at-risk communities with culinary education, essential life skills, and access to healthy food, with an emphasis on preventive health and diet-related illness reduction through fresh, whole foods. Meals in Motion collaborates with schools, cities, nonprofits, and local organizations across Los Angeles County to provide community cooking classes, school partnerships, family workshops, afterschool and parent-engagement programs, and family meal kit distributions.

The leadership team includes Norma Doran (Board President, Executive Director), Jason Doran (Board Vice President, CFO), Jenny Alvarez (Board Secretary, Director of Programing), Kevin Barko (Board Member), and Yasaman Radmehr (Board Member). The team includes educators, chefs, and community leaders with expertise in nutrition, culinary arts, education, and public health.
