The program also includes creative and digital learning connected to college & careers and career opportunities, along with artists & community exhibitions, film screenings, and public programs.

• Ages: 8–18 years old
• Schedule: Open Monday–Saturday with weekday hours extending into late afternoon

In 1993, Venice Arts was born. Venice Arts describes itself as a center for media & the imagination and a vibrant neighborhood arts center open to the whole community, with a core commitment to nurturing creativity and possibility in the lives of young people. The mission of Venice Arts is to ignite, expand, and transform the lives of Los Angeles’ low-income youth through photography and film education, and to use participatory storytelling practices to amplify the voices of underrepresented communities around the world. Venice Arts welcomes Jaime Zavala as Executive Director.

Media Arts Mentoring & Education is part of Venice Arts’ pioneering work in participatory or participant-produced media. Venice Arts also runs a Center for Creative Workforce Equity that develops workplace skills and placement opportunities for young adults ages 18–24, and a Gallery and Public Programs initiative that engages the community through exhibitions, screenings, and public programs.

Venice Arts has been recognized as a 2023 California NonProfit of the Year, and Jennifer Browne has received the WAVE Award. Venice Arts students have received a Scholastic Art & Writing National Gold Medal. Venice Arts’ community involvement includes partnerships with NBCUniversal’s Creative Impact Lab and with HOLA to present the Breaking In Speaker Series, and apprentices have created public service announcements for the Challenged Athletes Foundation, Illumination Entertainment, and International Bird Rescue.

A 17-year-old participant named Paula says, “Venice Arts has impacted my life because it has made me more open to trying new things. I have also become a more confident person and have realized that art is all around me. Venice Arts has given me tools I can use to express myself and I am very thankful for that.” A 12-year-old participant named Iternite says, “This place is to make your dreams come true, to allow you to open up and become who you want to be in the future.”
