Jumpstart Preschool Program includes exploration, creativity, and problem-solving in a classroom setting. Children take part in science, math, and language acquisition through play, group activities, and individual choice. Each classroom is designed for team teaching and follows a state and grant funded required teacher-to-child ratio.

• Schedule: AM (8:15 am to 11:15 am) and PM (12:15 pm to 3:15 pm) program options offered daily
Jumpstart Preschool Program is an early education program administered by Ventura Unified School District and is a California State Preschool Program (CSPP). It is a part-day multi-age program for children between the ages of 2 and 5 years. Each site offers an AM and a PM program daily that includes a no-cost nutritionally balanced meal. Admission is based on state income guidelines and other application criteria, with enrollment priorities that include a set-aside for children with exceptional needs. Children do not have to toilet independently in order to attend Jumpstart. Parent participation is included and is associated in the program description with empathy, self-regulation, and leadership development. Montalvo Elementary offers Dual Language Immersion AM and PM programs, and Will Rogers Elementary offers a Dual Language Immersion AM program.
The program’s stated philosophy is based on the guiding principles of the California Preschool Curriculum Foundations, which identify relationships as central, play as the primary context for learning, and learning as integrated and inclusive. These principles also state that intentional interactions enhance children’s learning experiences, family and community partnerships create meaningful connections, individualization of learning includes all children, and responsiveness to culture and language supports children’s learning. The program provides care for children in Ventura and the surrounding community throughout Ventura County and emphasizes family and community partnerships. The leadership team includes Cara Dallamora, ECE Coordinator, and Nikki Ertman, Sr. Office Assistant.
