About
Youth Aquatics Classes offers Competitive Stroke Instruction, Swim Team Prep, Youth Swim Conditioning, Junior Water Polo, and Synchronized Swim. Competitive Stroke Instruction focuses on stroke technique in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, and butterfly, along with competitive starts, turns, and finishes, and goes beyond basic swimming as preparation for more advanced swim classes and teams. When registration opens, swimmers can register for all classes in that season.
• Ages: 6–18 years old
Competitive Stroke Instruction requires participants to be comfortable in deep water and able to swim 50 yards comfortably. Swim Team Prep is equivalent to Level 4 skills and higher and requires swimmers to be able to swim 50 yards comfortably, where they receive stroke refinement, learn how to swim sets and read a pace clock, and take part in a coached workout. Youth Swim Conditioning is an advanced swim workout that focuses on swim sets, interval training, and stroke refinement, and it requires swimmers to be able to swim 100 yards comfortably and demonstrate the four competitive strokes; it is recommended to take Swim Team Prep beforehand, and those who sign up for Swim Team Prep in conjunction receive 50% off the same session sign-up. Junior Water Polo introduces the sport of water polo in a fun non-competitive environment, provides basic skills and understanding of the sport in a recreational format, focuses on the fun and dynamic aspects of the game, is taught in shallow water, and requires participants to have basic swimming abilities. Synchronized Swim uses sculling, breaststroke, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke to perform synchronized choreography to music, and requires participants to be able to swim 25 yards, float on their back, and tread water for 3 minutes.
The Youth Aquatics Classes program lists Kelsey Golden and Isaac Behar as Aquatics Coordinators and Samuel Barrera as Aquatics Supervisor. The City of Ventura’s Finance Department, which is associated with the same city organization, has been recognized for excellence in budgeting and financial reporting with awards from state and national professional organizations. The broader community context includes the MERITO Foundation’s involvement in the Ventura Earth Day Festival, hosted in partnership with the City of Ventura Environmental Sustainability Division at Plaza Park from 11:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
