Sparta Taekwondo was founded in 2004 and has been Kukkiwon-certified since 2004, with over 20 years of experience developing students of all ages and more than 1,000 students developed. The program reports 150+ active families and describes its curriculum as the East Bay’s most extensive Taekwondo curriculum, including both Taegeuk and Palgwae poomsae sets. All instructors are Kukkiwon-certified, and several coaches competed nationally and internationally before teaching at Sparta Taekwondo.

The leadership team includes Head Instructor Master Geoffrey Uy; Master Instructors Master Diane Hoh, Master Tshomlee Go (also Team Sparta Coach), Master Garth Andrews, and Master Jason Lee and Master Alice Liau as Assistant Team Sparta Coaches; Senior Instructors Kenneth, Kristopher, Kimberly, Kyle, and Keith Uy; and Assistant Instructors Karina and Koby Uy. Sparta Taekwondo states that a black belt at Sparta takes years of consistent work and that belts are earned, not issued.

The program’s mission states that Sparta Taekwondo was built on a vision to produce champions in the ring and in life, and that it views Taekwondo as a success system for building great character and community leaders in a distracted age. It describes itself as building leaders through martial arts in the Walnut Creek community and being trusted by Walnut Creek families since 2004.

Sparta Taekwondo is rated 5.0 stars on Google. Parent and student testimonials describe children looking forward to class, long-term family involvement, international-level training, and Sparta Taekwondo feeling like a second home, with one student noting starting at age 5 and continuing to train and teach at age 15. Another parent reports a child training from elementary school through high school and earning a black belt that the student considers one of the most important accomplishments of his life.

The starter package includes a full Taekwondo uniform that families keep even if they do not continue past the trial, and for the 2-week trial the only item needed is the included uniform.
