Farm Camp
Live Earth Farm / Farm Discovery, 172 Litchfield Lane, Watsonville, CA 95076
About
Farm Camp includes hands-on activities in farming, art, cooking, and nature journaling on a working organic farm. Campers take two hikes a week around the farm to explore wild spaces and Live Earth production fields, and join Animal Discovery to hang out with pygmy goats and chickens and visit ponies, a cow, and a pig. Activities also include fossil making with clay and found objects like shells, leaves, and rocks, harvesting strawberries, planting garlic, making strawberry jam with harvest from the fields, and using water colors.
• Ages: 5–18 years old
• Schedule: Ten-week summer program running June 1–August 7, with a daily structure that includes an opening circle, Animal Discovery, multiple activity blocks, snacks, lunch, and free play, plus an extended afternoon clean-up, debrief, and skill-building time for Leaders-in-Training
• Price: 10% discount for siblings; early bird registration from 12/19/2025 to 1/31/2026, with the early bird discount available until 5 pm on January 31, 2026
Farm Camp takes place on Live Earth’s 150-acre organic farm, which includes organic vegetable row crop production, fruit orchards, a herd of goats, a milking cow named Bella, chickens, ponies, a cow, a pig, wild spaces, and Live Earth production fields. Campers assist in daily animal chores while learning about the benefits of humane livestock management. The program has a policy requesting visitors not bring dogs to the farm due to farm dogs protecting the farm, and accommodations are offered for service dogs with advance contact and clear marking.
Leaders-in-Training ages 13 and older learn with the education team, build job skills, gain experience with children, and learn about life on a working farm, with a daily schedule that includes a 3:15–4:00 pm clean-up, debrief, and skill-building block. The leadership team includes Operations Manager Molly Darby and education associate Ash Bahena. Farm Camp’s mission is to support the transformation of kids’ relationships to food, their empowerment to become engaged citizens in the community, and the building of skills to steward the natural world.
Farm Camp is part of a community that includes a generous group of supporters who sponsor Farm Camp scholarships, and scholarships are available. As a small way to give back to families, the program offers a 10% discount for siblings. Live Earth Farm produce is Certified Organic by Organic Certifiers.
A sample parent testimonial states, “I love that she is outside all day and has a new appreciation of where her food comes from. She LOVES to cook from this camp!” For daily participation, the packing list includes lunch, two snacks, a water bottle, comfortable closed-toed shoes, a sweater, sunscreen, and any necessary medications such as an inhaler or epi-pen, which are to be provided to staff at drop-off rather than left in kids’ bags.
