About

Designer Camp offers hands-on workshops, tours, mentoring from design industry professionals and staff, and a culminating design project where students create their own design portfolio. Campers visit showrooms, retail stores, design houses, and businesses that are shaping the design industry, and they pitch their brand and designs to parents and the local design community. Designer Camp explores careers in the design industry by implementing the principles and elements of design, and students explore the LA design world across Art, Beauty, Branding, Fashion, Interior Design, Merchandising, Photography, Styling, and Trend Forecasting.

• Ages: 11–17 years old
• Schedule: This week long intensive camp allows students to dive deeper into the fields of interior design.

Designer Camp includes focused tracks such as Interior Design Camp, which covers event design, furniture design, home staging, hospitality design, interior styling, prop styling, set design, and textile design. Fashion & Styling Camp includes design, draping, fashion sketching, fashion styling, merchandising and branding, product development, and trend forecasting. Photography Camp, offered in partnership with Leica Akademie USA, covers Photography 101, camera basics, lighting, photoshoots, portrait photography, product photography, fashion photography, street photography, and social media. Beauty Industry Camp is led by top beauty professionals and includes hands-on workshops with the latest techniques while exploring careers in branding, makeup design, hairstyling, beauty sales, and marketing, supported by partnerships with beauty artists and brands.

Designer Camp’s mission is to give students a community that helps them cultivate their own unique creativity and discover the many possibilities for a career in their future. The program is described as a leading collaborative, design-based summer camp for young creatives in rising seventh through twelfth grade, and it welcomes youth from all around the world. Its method is collaboration over competition, and it offers a safe and encouraging space for each unique camper to thrive, connect, and build for their future. No design experience is necessary, just a desire to learn, and the boutique programs feature partnerships with nationally recognized designers and brands, along with rare opportunities for behind-the-scenes tours of studios and galleries and informative talks from working designers.

Designer Camp partners with non-profit organizations so students can design for social good, and partnering with the design community within carefully chosen locations allows them to provide unique experiences. Thanks to the support of the design community, they are able to offer experiences that grow students’ present creativity and give insight into future opportunities. The Designer Camp Team is made up of design and educational professionals, and the founder is Kristen Dees.

Designer Camp has been described as “a curated boutique-style experience, a welcomed alternative to traditional camps” by West Hollywood Lifestyle Magazine and “trendiest summer camp for kids” by Angeleno Magazine | Modern Luxury. Founder Kristen Dees describes Designer Camp as “a platform to bring the design community together through collaboration while building a better future through our students.” A parent testimonial from Elizabeth White, a parent and interior designer, states that “Designer Camp has been really exciting for my daughter. They have the kids dive in immediately into real world design situations.”
